Friends
The start of a beautiful friendship...
Nina met her daycare buddy Elsa Rose today. Their mothers (Katy and Bridget) and grandmothers (Sue and Mary) have been friends for years. Bridget will be taking care of Nina when I go back to work. I am so lucky to have such a kind daycare provider and Nina is lucky to have a little friend so close in age!

4 weeks
Does that mean Nina is one month old? Or is her one month birthday on January 11th? Either way I can't believe it was 4 weeks ago she joined our family and sad that 4 of my 12 weeks off are already done! OK, not thinking about that...
Nina is eating about 2 ounces every 3-4 hours and now weighs 6lbs 5oz. She sleeps all day and is awake at night until we tuck her in the sling and shes out within minutes. She has also learned to cry really hard when she is mad - diaper or clothes change. Its funny how they can go from screaming to calm in an instant. Nina has almost perfected sucking her thumb. She can get it in there and has sucked a few minutes but she usually sucks her fist or stuffs any fingers she can fit in. She also is making really funny facial expressions. Sometimes she looks like a West and sometimes she looks like baby Katy.

Birth Story - Part 1
Nina is wide awake after her 2am feeding so decided to just put her in the sling and catch up on blogging.
Thursday, December 10th I had a doctors appointment and was dialated to 1, 50% effaced. Friday morning I woke up with contractions but they weren't that bad so I went to work. The contractions continued all day and were consistently 20 seconds, 5 minutes apart. I finally called the nurse about 3pm and she told me it was Braxton-Hicks, which I believed because the contractions were pretty tolerable. I was not thinking this was the real thing. Being Friday afternoon and being slightly uncomfortable and tired I called Chad to meet me a little early. He said I looked miserable when he saw me. We walked through the skyways to the parking ramp. Just as I was complaining about 10 hours of contractions my water broke! Good thing I was wearing black pants and almost to the car! It was definitely the the warm gush that feels like you are peeing, no mistaking that. All of a sudden I wasn't so tired and got really excited - this is it! I explained to Chad once your water breaks the baby is coming soon. He started to panic a little as we were not ready or expecting this! It was the exact day I turned 37 weeks - she wanted to come out the first day it was possible! We drove home in the winter weather, happy we had just got new snow tires. When we got home Chad installed the carseat while I looked at about 5 checklists of what to pack in your hospital bag. Meanwhile, the contractions grew stronger. I called my doctor and the one on call was the ONE I didn't like! She said no rush to come in - just labor at home all night. Now I was, or thought I was, really in pain. I tried to distract myself by watching Fargo. We called our friends and cancelled our plans for that evening. I was growing impatient and decided just to go to the hospital. Took this picture right before we left:

BFF
Breast Feeding Frenzy. Its hard to believe I have already nursed Nina almost 200 times! She is pretty good at it but sometimes plays around. Its so cute to see her open her mouth as wide as she can at go all out for it with a big nose dive. Sometimes its frantic licking with her cute little tongue. I love to stroke her tiny little calf, perfect heels, soft feet, and tiny toes as her relaxed legs dangle. She usually smiles before shes done then dozes off in a milk hangover.

Due Date
Happy New Year! Today is Nina's 3 week birthday and also her due date! I do miss being pregnant but am thankful for not being stretched an extra 3 weeks. And of course we are thrilled with the extra days we get to adore our daughter. Nina spent New Years Eve soaking up all the attention from her parents and all 4 grandparents. Today she is watching football with dad.
